Office to housing configurator
We built a design tool for Encore in Paris, which turns the dimensions of an obsolete office building into a residential conversion drawn to their system.
Working out whether a vacant office can become housing means rebuilding the same study from scratch for every building.
The work is slow enough that most buildings are ruled in or out on instinct, long before a drawing exists.
We turned the design rules into something you can run, so a few measurements produce a scheme laid out the way the team would lay it out by hand.
The model appears with every module placed, and the floor areas and unit counts come with it.
Changing the structural grid or adding a floor redraws the whole scheme, which lets options be compared side by side in one sitting.
A building that would once have waited for a feasibility study can be answered in the first conversation about it.
